General Description:
The AS5600 is a Hall-based rotary magnetic position sensorusing planar sensors that convert the magnetic fieldcomponent perpendicular to the surface of the chip into avoltage. The signals coming from the Hall sensors are first amplified andfiltered before being converted by the analog-to-digitalconverter (ADC). The output of the ADC is processed by thehardwired CORDIC block (Coordinate Rotation DigitalComputer) to compute the angle and magnitude of themagnetic field vector. The intensity of the magnetic field is usedby the automatic gain control (AGC) to adjust the amplificationlevel to compensate for temperature and magnetic fieldvariations. The angle value provided by the CORDIC algorithm is used bythe output stage. The user can choose between an analogoutput and a PWM-encoded digital output. The former providesan output voltage which represents the angle as a ratiometriclinear absolute value. The latter provides a digital output whichrepresents the angle as the pulse width. The AS5600 is programmed through an industry-standard I²Cinterface to write an on-chip non-volatile memory. Thisinterface can be used to program a zero angle (start position)and a maximum angle (stop position) which maps the fullresolution of the output to a subset of the entire 0 to 360 degreerange.
Applications:
The AS5600 is ideally suited for contactless potentiometers, contactless knobs, pedals, RC servos and other angular positionmeasurement solutions.
