The DRV835x family of devices are highly-integratedgate drivers for three-phase brushless DC (BLDC)motor applications. These applications include fieldoriented control (FOC), sinusoidal current control, andtrapezoidal current control of BLDC motors. Thedevice variants provide optional integrated currentshunt amplifiers to support different motor controlschemes and a buck regulator to power the gatedriver or external controller.The DRV835x uses smart gate drive (SGD)architecture to decrease the number of externalcomponents that are typically necessary for MOSFETslew rate control and protection circuits. The SGDarchitecture also optimizes dead time to preventshoot-through conditions, provides flexibility indecreasing electromagnetic interference (EMI) byMOSFET slew rate control, and protects against gateshort circuit conditions through VGS monitors. Astrong gate pulldown circuit helps prevent unwanteddV/dt parasitic gate turn on eventsVarious PWM control modes (6x, 3x, 1x, andindependent) are supported for simple interfacing tothe external controller. These modes can decreasethe number of outputs required of the controller forthe motor driver PWM control signals. This family ofdevices also includes 1x PWM mode for simplesensored trapezoidal control of a BLDC motor byusing an internal block commutation table.
