Texas Instruments LM5163DDAR

The Texas Instruments LM5163DDAR is a wide input voltage range synchronous buck converter designed to deliver up to 0.5A of output current with exceptional efficiency and reliability. Operating from 6V to 100V, this converter integrates high-side and low-side power MOSFETs (0.725Ω and 0.34Ω respectively) to minimize external component count and solution size. The constant-on-time (COT) control architecture provides fast transient response, nearly constant switching frequency up to 1MHz, and eliminates the need for loop compensation components. A minimum controllable on-time of just 50ns enables large step-down ratios, supporting direct conversion from 48V nominal inputs to low-voltage rails. The device features ultra-low 10.5µA no-load quiescent current and diode emulation mode for high light-load efficiency, making it ideal for battery-powered and always-on applications.

DESCRIPTION:

The LM5163 synchronous buck converter is designed to regulate over a wide input voltage range, minimizing the need for external surge suppression components. A minimum controllable on-time of 50ns enables large step-down ratios, supporting direct step-down conversion from a 48V nominal input to low voltage rails, thereby reducing system complexity and solution cost. The LM5163 is capable of operating at nearly 100% duty cycle as needed when the input voltage drops to 6V, making it ideal for industrial applications and high-cell-count battery packs with wide input supply voltage ranges. The LM5163 integrates high-side and low-side power MOSFETs and delivers up to 0.5A of output current. Constant-on-time (COT) control architecture provides an almost constant switching frequency with excellent load and line transient response. Additional features of the LM5163 include ultra-low IQ and diode emulation mode operation for high light-load efficiency, innovative peak and valley overcurrent protection, integrated VCC auxiliary supply and bootstrap diode, precision enable and input UVLO, and thermal shutdown protection with automatic recovery. An open-drain PGOOD indicator provides sequencing, fault reporting, and output voltage monitoring. The LM5163 is available in a thermally enhanced 8-pin SO PowerPAD™ package. The 1.27mm pin pitch of this device provides adequate spacing for high-voltage applications.
