TI TPS56C230RJER Datesheet

The TPS56C230RJER from Texas Instruments is a high‑efficiency synchronous buck converter with integrated power MOSFETs, delivering up to 12A of continuous output current. Operating from an input voltage range of 4.5V to 18V, it provides an adjustable output from 0.6V to 5.5V, making it suitable for a wide variety of point‑of‑load applications. The device features TI's proprietary D‑CAP3™ control architecture, which enables fast transient response and excellent line/load regulation with internal compensation, while supporting low‑ESR output capacitors including specialty polymer and ultra‑low ESR ceramic capacitors. The MODE pin allows selection between Eco‑mode™ for high efficiency at light loads and Forced Continuous Conduction Mode (FCCM) for reduced output ripple under light‑load conditions.

Description:

The TPS56C230 is a high efficiency synchronousbuck converter with integrated FETs. Systemdesigners can use the device in a wide variety ofapplications since it draws low standby current andrequires few external components.The TPS56C230 employs D-CAP3 control thatprovides fast transient response and excellent lineand load regulation with internal compensation. It alsohas a proprietary circuit that enables the device tosupport low equivalent series resistance (ESR) outputcapacitors such as specialty polymer and ultra-lowESR ceramic capacitors.TPS56C230‘s MODE pin can be used to set Ecomode or FCCM mode for light-load operation. Ecomode maintains high efficiency during light loadoperation, and FCCM mode operations keeps outputripple small at light load. The device supports bothinternal and external soft-start time option. It has aninternal fixed soft-start time 1.2 ms, but if theapplication needs a longer soft-start time, the externalSS pin can be used to achieve it by connecting aexternal capacitor.The TPS56C230 integrates power good indicator andprovides output discharge function. It providescomplete protection including OVP, UVP, OCP, OTPand UVLO. The device is available in a 20-pin 3.0-mm x 3.0-mm HotRod package and the junctiontemperature is specified from –40°C to 125°C.
