The INA186-Q1 is an automotive, low-power, voltage-output current sense amplifier (also known as a current shunt monitor). This device is commonly used to monitor systems directly connected to automotive 12V batteries. The INA186-Q1 can sense the voltage drop across a shunt resistor at common-mode voltages from –0.2V to +40V, independent of the supply voltage. In addition, the input pins have an absolute maximum voltage of 42V. The low input bias current of the INA186-Q1 allows the use of large current sense resistors, enabling precise current measurement down to the microampere level. The low offset voltage of the zero-drift architecture extends the dynamic range of current measurement. This feature supports the use of smaller sense resistors while still providing accurate current measurement with lower power loss. The INA186-Q1 is powered from a single supply of 1.7V to 5.5V and consumes a maximum supply current of 90 μA when enabled. Five fixed gain options are available: 25V/V, 50V/V, 100V/V, 200V/V, or 500V/V. The device is rated for an operating temperature range of –40°C to +125°C and is available in SC70, SOT-23 (5), and SOT-23 (8) packages.
