STMicroelectronics ST485EBDR

The ST485EBDR from STMicroelectronics is a low-power, half-duplex transceiver designed for RS-485 and RS-422 communication. It integrates one driver and one receiver, operating from a single 5 V supply with a typical quiescent current of only 300 µA, making it ideal for power-sensitive applications. The device features robust ESD protection of ±15 kV (HBM) on driver outputs and receiver inputs without latch-up, as well as ±8 kV IEC-1000-4-2 contact discharge protection. It supports a -7 V to +12 V common-mode input voltage range and allows up to 256 transceivers on the same bus. Additional protection includes driver current limiting and thermal shutdown circuitry, which places driver outputs into a high-impedance state during excessive power dissipation. With 70 mV typical input hysteresis, 30 ns propagation delay, and 5 ns skew, the ST485EBDR ensures reliable bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines in harsh industrial environments.

Description:

The ST485E is a low power transceiver for RS485 and RS-422 communication. Each driveroutput and receiver input is protected against± 15 kV electrostatic discharge (HBM) (ESD)shocks, without latch-up. These parts contain onedriver and one receiver in half duplexconfiguration.This transceiver draws 300 µA (typ.) of supplycurrent when unloaded or fully loaded withdisabled drivers.It operates from a single 5 V supply.Driver is short-circuit current limited and isprotected against excessive power dissipation bythermal shutdown circuitry that place the driveroutputs into a high-impedance state.The ST485E is designed for bi-directional datacommunications on multipoint bus transmissionlines (half-duplex applications).
