According to Pan Jianzhou, Holtek's deputy general manager, the decline in September revenue was mainly caused by delivery delays rather than a significant drop in market demand. Some products are experiencing delayed wafer starts, making it difficult to fulfill customer orders on schedule.
With manufacturing costs expected to rise further in 2027, Holtek is prioritizing higher-value applications, including AI, healthcare, and brushless DC (BLDC) motor control.
The company will continue supporting standard MCU products to minimize supply disruptions for existing customers. However, weaker demand in some consumer markets, combined with rising wafer, packaging, and testing costs, is increasing pressure on lower-end products.
AI server cooling is becoming an important development area for Holtek. After more than two years of development, the company began receiving orders for its 12V air-cooling fan solution in September 2026. Deliveries are expected to begin contributing to revenue in the first half of 2027, potentially starting in the first quarter.
The solution supports reverse-wind startup, helping fans restart under challenging operating conditions. Holtek's 48V solution remains under customer evaluation, with its mass-production timeline yet to be confirmed.
Beyond AI server cooling, Holtek is also expanding its MCU applications in healthcare, smart home appliances, robotics, motor control, and energy management.
Holtek's capacity constraints highlight the importance of proactive component sourcing and inventory planning. Longer wafer lead times and limited backend capacity may affect delivery schedules even when customer demand remains strong.
For OEMs, ODMs, and EMS providers, early demand forecasting, regular lead-time checks, and timely procurement are essential to reducing the risk of production interruptions.
As the semiconductor supply chain remains under pressure, securing reliable component supply is becoming just as important as product performance and cost.
