DESCRIPTION:
The DRV871x-Q1 family of devices is a highly integrated multi-channel gate driver designed to drive multiple motors or loads. The device integrates 4 (DRV8714-Q1) or 8 (DRV8718-Q1) half-bridge gate drivers, driver power supply, current shunt amplifiers, and protection monitors to reduce overall system complexity, cost, and size. The smart gate drive architecture manages dead time to prevent shoot-through, controls slew rate to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI), and optimizes propagation delay to enhance performance.
The provided input modes enable independent half-bridge or H-bridge control. Four PWM inputs can be multiplexed across different drivers with SPI control. The wide common-mode shunt amplifier features in-line current sensing, enabling continuous motor current measurement even during recirculation. If in-line sensing is not required, the amplifier can be configured for low-side or high-side sensing.
These devices offer a range of protection features to promote robust system operation. Such features include undervoltage and overvoltage monitoring, VDS overcurrent and VGS gate fault monitoring for external MOSFETs, off-line open-load and short-circuit diagnostics, as well as internal thermal warning and thermal shutdown protection.
