Description:
The VHN5019A-E is a full bridge motor driverintended for a wide range of automotiveapplications. The device incorporates a dual monolithic high-side drivers and two low-sideswitches. The high-side driver switch is designedusing STMicroelectronics’ well known and provenproprietary VIPower® M0 technology that allowsto efficiently integrate on the same die a truePower MOSFET with an intelligentsignal/protection circuit. The three dice are assembled in aMultiPowerSO-30 package on electrically isolatedlead-frames. This package, specifically designedfor harsh automotive environments offersimproved thermal performance thanks to exposeddie pads. The input signals INA and INB candirectly interface the microcontroller to select themotor direction and the brake condition. The DIAGA/ENA or DIAGB/ENB, when connectedto an external pull-up resistor, enables one leg ofthe bridge. It also provides a feedback digitaldiagnostic signal. The CS pin allows to monitorthe motor current by delivering a currentproportional to its value when CS_DIS pin isdriven low or left open. The PWM, up to 20 KHz,lets us control the speed of the motor in allpossible conditions. In all cases, a low-level stateon the PWM pin turns off both the LSA and LSBswitches. When PWM rises to a high-level, LSA orLSB turns on again depending on the input pinstate. Output current limitation and thermalshutdown protect the concerned high-side inshort to ground condition. The short to battery condition is revealed by theoverload detector or by thermal shutdown thatlatches off the relevant low-side.Active VCC pin voltage clamp protects the deviceagainst low energy spikes in all configurations forthe motor. The CP pin provides the necessarygate drive for an external N-channel PowerMOSused for reverse polarity protection.
